River City Rhythm Band, Live in the Trail Studio
Live Sessions — August 5, 2025
River City Rhythm Band | The Trail 103.3
(Dramatic music)
Tommy:
It’s The Trail 103.3 KDTR FM, Florence, Missoula.
The Trail is locally owned and operated by Missoula Broadcasting.
I’m Tommy—always a pleasure to be in this studio with you.
As usual, we open up our time together with a Trail Track this afternoon—a variation of the Trail Track brought to us by Greenhouse Pharmacy.
As we kick off the fair this week, live music at the fair every night at 9 p.m.—free admittance all week. What I particularly love about this is that it’s all ages. We love all-ages shows in Missoula.
And tonight, playing the stage at 9 o’clock—River City Rhythm Band. Hello, band!
Band:
Hello! (laughing)
Tommy:
Who would like to be the first spokesperson? Come on up here to the microphone and join us.
Come on up. Come join us in the studio!
These guys are playing tonight, 9 o’clock, at the free stage. I want you to go around, introduce yourselves, and let folks know what your role is within the band—and maybe a little background about your musical story, so to speak.
Alyssa:
My name is Alyssa McQuain. I’ve been a musician since about the age of 10 years old. I play the bass guitar, and I sing in the band.
Ty:
All right. My name is Ty Armourding, and yeah—been playing music with Alyssa and Dan for several years now. I just enjoy getting out and especially engaging in our community in a way that we love and we’re passionate about—playing music of all types and genres.
Tommy:
Cool!
Dan:
And last—and least. (laughs)
I’m Dan DeLong, and I play guitar and do a little bit of singing with the band as well.
Tommy:
Nice!
Dan:
Yeah, we’ve been playing together for like 20+ years at this point, and as a collective for this particular project—for about a year and a half.
Tommy:
Really? How many shows do you think you’ve done over the course of your time together, if you had to throw a dart?
Alyssa:
Hmm...
Dan:
We’d guess probably somewhere around 20?
Ty:
Yeah, probably in the last year and a half—about 20.
Tommy:
Wow. A lot of shows. And with that, you’ve got a show tonight. Free show—newly revamped fairgrounds.
(Hayden enters)
This is Hayden coming in—I think he’s taking some photos. Hi, Hayden! Live radio at its finest, everybody.
Hayden:
How we doing?
Tommy:
So, you guys take the stage at 9. What can folks expect? Any surprises in store for the big set tonight at the fairgrounds?
Alyssa:
Well, if you’ve been to one of our shows, it’s probably not going to be super surprising. But we like to do a little bit of everything—to have a little bit of something for everybody.
Ty:
Lots to sing along with.
Tommy:
Cool. A bit of a collaborative set, then—get the crowd involved?
Band:
Yeah!
Tommy:
Well, the weather looks good as far as I’ve seen for tonight. You’re not going to get rained out or anything, so let’s find all the wood and knock on it, right? (laughing)
Joined by River City Rhythm Band in the Trail studio—would you guys like to play a song for us?
Band:
Yeah!
Tommy:
All right, they’ve got some beautiful guitars here. I see a Gibson—just kind of painting the stage here. What’s that?
Ty:
Oh, he’s got a Martin.
Dan:
A life goal set in a round of who'da thunk it. (laughs)
Tommy:
All right! They’re live on The Trail 103.3.

Tommy:
River City Rhythm Band, warming up The Trail 103.3 studios this afternoon. Playing tonight at the Missoula Fair—9 o’clock showtime.
Where do you guys practice? Do you move the practice space around?
Alyssa:
We actually practice over at Zootown Church.
Tommy:
Okay, well—I’m gonna hang out at Zootown Church moving forward! I’ve heard some band practices where I was like, “Oh, that’s gonna bug their neighbors!” (laughs)
Clearly there’s some chemistry. I mean, 20 years of playing as a band. What do those practice sessions look like? Let’s walk through how this piece of chemistry has blossomed into what you have.
Ty:
We all try to do our parts and prepare ahead of time so when we come together it goes a little smoother. But yeah, we just really enjoy hanging out—lots of laughs and good times. Practice is actually pretty darn easy.
Dan:
Yeah, a couple hours late into the evening with some pizza and hanging out. Maybe a little more laughs than actual music—but it’s a lot of fun.
Tommy:
That’s what it’s all about.
So who are you listening to right now? Any concerts you’re going out to see?
Alyssa:
Ty’s got the list of concerts! (laughs)
There are definitely ones that we all want to see, but he’s gone to like 12 in the last week, I think!
Ty:
A whole lot of ’em. Yeah, I love concerts. Spent a lot of time at Under the Big Sky a couple weekends ago up in Whitefish. Mumford & Sons just killed it. It was amazing. Any opportunity to see them—take it. Totally worth it.
Dan:
I’ve always wanted to see Margo Price, but haven’t gotten the chance yet.
Tommy:
Oh, that’s so good. How about you?
Alyssa:
I’m kind of the punk rocker, I guess. (laughs) I grew up in the punk/metal/alternative scene.
Last concert I went to? Blink-182, actually.
Tommy:
Nice. RIP Ozzy Osbourne.
Band:
Yeah...
Tommy:
Any Ozzy covers coming out at the fair tonight?
Band:
Ooh… not yet.
Tommy:
That’s a tough cover! (laughing) You’ve got some work to do for that one.
Visiting with River City Rhythm Band in the Trail studio. What else are you working on besides shows? Anything else going on in your orbit—releasing any music?
Ty:
We’re working on writing stuff, recording stuff—doing a little bit of that. Hoping to get more done as the year goes on.
Tommy:
Very cool. If anyone wants to keep in touch with you, where do they go? Are you on Instagram, Bandcamp, anything like that?
Dan:
Yeah, the easiest thing is probably our website: RiverCityRhythmBand.com.
We’re also on Instagram and Facebook.
Tommy:
Awesome. Well, I know you’ve got a show to get to tonight—and this guy’s obviously very prepared, going to 25 shows in a week! (laughing)
Can we squeeze one more song out of you before you go?
Band:
Yeah, sure!
Tommy:
I thought these mics might not have enough gain, Hayden—I was going to ask you to come a little closer—but wow. That sounded good in the headphones.
What do you want to play for us?
Alyssa:
This one’s called “Maestro” by Wilder Woods.
Tommy:
All right—we love Wilder Woods. It’s live with River City Rhythm Band on The Trail.
(Live music performance begins)
🎵 (“Maestro” – Wilder Woods cover)

Tommy:

You’ve got a little crowd gathered out there—look at this! Coming in from the streets. If you like what you’ve heard, catch them tonight at the Missoula Fair. Free live music every night at 9 o’clock.
You guys—thanks so much for coming by and hanging out at The Trail.
Band:
Yeah, thank you! Super fun.
Tommy:
Again, the website to keep in touch: RiverCityRhythmBand.com.
If you didn’t already have a reason to get out to the fair—ride the Zipper, eat the corn dogs, all those kinds of things—this is it.
Anybody in here gonna ride any rides?
Band:
No, thank you. (laughing)
Tommy:
That’s great. Thanks so much for coming by, you guys.
It’s The Trail 103.3.
